MAJ(P) Danelle Rodriguez
Assistant Professor of Military Science
Major Danelle Rodriguez is an Arizona native. She is a former student-athlete and three time alumni of the University of Arizona. She was a walk on athlete to The University of Arizona Cross Country and Track and Field teams in 2005-2007. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Arizona in 2008. In 2009, she was a direct commission into the Army Reserve Medical Command. After commissioning, she went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Arizona in 2015. Shortly after, she completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice at the University of Arizona in 2017. Her Professional Military Education includes graduate of the Basic Officer Leader Course, Army Medical Department Center and School, Ft. Sam Houston, TX in 2010; graduate of Captains Career Course, Army Medical Department Center and School, Ft. Sam Houston, TX in 2012; Master Resilience Training Course, Ft. Jackson, SC in 2012; graduate of Command and General Staff College, 2024.
In 2009, her first assignment as a medical surgical nurse was with the 6253rd Medical Support Unit (MSU) located in Tucson, AZ. During her assignment with 6253rd, she served in roles to include squad leader, platoon leader, Officer in Charge of Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT), and Officer in Charge of Height and weight program. In 2011, she supported an annual training mission in Bamberg, Germany where she assisted the Chief Nurse in Community Health missions. In September 2013, she was mobilized in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) to joint base task force Ft. Belvoir, VA where she was assigned as the charge nurse of a 19-bed surgical unit in a 120-bed Medical and Dental Activity (MEDDAC), serving the National Capital Region, military personnel and beneficiaries. After returning from mobilization in March 2014, she returned to the 6253rd MSU and picked up where she left off assuming the role of platoon leader, Officer in Charge of APFT and Officer in Charge of Height and weight program. In June 2016, she was assigned to the 7400th Troop Medical Clinic (TMC) in Red Rock, AZ where she assumed the role of platoon leader. In 2016, MAJ Rodriguez also changed areas of concentration from a medical surgical nurse to a Family Nurse Practitioner. In 2017, MAJ Rodriguez assumed the role of the first commander of a newly erected unit, 7377th Blood Detachment where her unit was responsible for providing medical support for collecting, processing and distributing blood to service members, their families and other patients. While in command, she also helped establish a working relationship with the National guard for medical providers to provide medical services to keep soldiers medically ready for deployments. After she completed her two-year command, she transferred back to 7400th TMC where she would serve as the Medical Readiness Officer providing company level and battalion level physical health assessments to keep soldiers medically ready and deployable. In 2023, Major Rodriguez pursued a broadening assignment and joined the Sun Devil Battalion as a Reserve Officer to serve as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Arizona State University. In 2024, Major Rodriguez proudly returned back to her Alma Mater to join the Wildcat Battalion as a Reserve Officer to serve as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at The University of Arizona.
MAJ Rodriguez military awards include Army Commendation Medal with one bronze oak leaf, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with three bronze oak leaves, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal With “M” Device, Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, Army Forces Reserve Medal, German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge in Gold.
MAJ Rodriguez resides in Tucson. She is married to a law enforcement SWAT Sergeant and has a 7 year old son. On the civilian side, MAJ Rodriguez is employed as a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Pulmonology.
