1LT Brian Carrera

1^st Lieutenant Brian Carrera became the APMS Cavazos Intern at the University of Arizona Wildcat Battalion on October 1, 2024. He was born in Richmond Virginia and lived in Guatemala for 7 years before going back to Virginia at the age of 10. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a Minor in Spanish in 2022 and commissioned into the United States Army as a 2^nd Lieutenant in the Infantry branch. 

1^st Lieutenant Carrera’s first assignment was in 2-327 IN “No Slack”, 1^st BDE, 101^st Airborne Division. While serving with his unit, he graduated from air assault school and shortly after deployed to Romania and Germany where he served as the BN AS-3 planner, the Battalion Unit Movement Officer, the Romanian Liaison, coordinating training and positive relationships with Romanian forces, and was part of the Joint Multinational Readiness Center Rotation 01-24. Shortly after, he was placed in charge of a heavy weapons platoon for 2nd PLT, D Co. 2-327th IN, a light armored infantry platoon that can conduct mobility and heavy support for the battalion. After his time as a platoon leader, he was placed the air assault instructor for the battalion, certifying and successfully producing 18 air assault qualified Soldiers. 1^st Lieutenant Carrera also took the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT), maintaining a 3/2 proficiency in Spanish.  

1^st Lieutenant Carrera’s military schools include Infantry Basic Officer Leadership Course, Air Assault School, and Unit Mobility Officer School. His awards include the Norwegian Ruck March Badge, 4 Army Achievement Award Medals, National Defense Service Medal, and Army Service Medal.
